Trivia Questions- ALCO locomotives

The A's are long gone and the same can be said for the DL109/DL110.

A total of 74 DL109's (cabs) and 4 DL110's (boosters) were built. NH had 60 cabs, RI had 4 cabs, GM&O had 3 cabs, MILW had 2 cabs, C&NW had 1 cab, ATSF had a cab and a booster and SR had 3 cabs and 3 boosters.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Have been reading a book by Otto Kuhler entitled "My Iron Journey". Found the book in a used book store. Loved it.

Kuhler was the industrial designer who helped design the "Hiawatha" line of trains on the Milwaukee railroad. (He worked as a consultant to ALCO.)

There's a photo of the New York Times, dated May 5, 1935... page one... which shows the rollout in Schenectady of Hiawatha #1.

Trivia question: Is there any original Hiawatha locomotive stashed anywhere? You Kalmbach Wisconsoners would know... I would dearly love to see that locomotive with my own eyeballs.

Kuhler also designed the carbody for an ALCO diesel the New Haven RR called the DL-109. (The NHRR used the locomotives as passenger power during the day and freight power at night.)

Trivia question #2: Do any DL-109 type locomotives exist anywhere? (ALCO fans... this is your chance... I would like to see one in the flesh, as it were.)

It would be a dirty rotten shame if the major accomplishments of a Kuhler were all scrapped and forgotten.
