How Come the doors are open?

I don't know about the little Joes but just step down into the toliet area of a convention style cab (no a/c). If you never knew what hot was, you will then.

Asked this on another thread... and never got an answer, so I'll ask it again.

I've seen photos of Little Joe electric locomotives working out west. The last photo I saw was one by Steinheimer of Little Joes MU'd in wintertime. (There was snow along the tracks.)

My question is this one: Seems like everytime I see a photo of a Little Joe, the front access door is open. Did they run so hot that this was forced air conditioning?

I've never seen photos of what's behind door number one of a GG-1, right below the headlight... did they use them?

I figure there's at least one old head out there who knows the answer.
