Milwaukee Road station in Gallatin Gateway, MT
Posted by 081552 on Saturday, August 6, 2005 2:44 PM
Last month we stayed at the Gallatin Gateway Inn, which was an old Milwaueke Road station that has been beautifully restored. Was this section of track electrified? They have old photos in the hotel showing a station with overhead but I'm not sure if it's the same location. My 1950 Official Guide shows bus/shuttle trains from the main line to the Gallatin Gateway station.

On another subject, how do you post photos in a message?

The Gallatin Gateway is on the endpoint of a Milw. branchline about 15 miles southwest of Bozeman. It is near Yellowstone Park. Can't help with the electric question.

I got this answer from arbfbe-
The MILW purchased the Gallatin Valley Electric which was electified between Gallatin Gateway and Bozeman and perhaps on toward Menard. The MILW connecting line from Three Forks and Bozeman Hot Springs was never electrified and when interurban service was discontinued by the GVE all the wire was removed from the lines.

Per a book I'm currently reading on THE OLYMPIAN passenger train, the Milwaukee Road ran a connecting bus service to Gallatin Gateway from THE OLYMPIAN. On ocassion (I assume when there were plenty of passengers booked for the trip) a steam locomotive would haul the passengers from the main line to Gallatin.

I realize this is an old thread, but was the Milwaukee Road line to Gallatin a branch line?

We stayed there in 1999.  The inn closed in 2013.  It reportedly was acquired to house employees of the Big Sky resorts about a year ago.
