Snow Plow Videos
Posted by Torpedo on Saturday, May 14, 2005 7:24 PM
I'm the newbie here, and I was just wondering if anyone has heard about the videos "Snow Plow" and "Plow Extras". They are produced by Greg Scholl Productions. These videos show Candian National GM F7s plowing in winter. There's great footage of the plows hitting drifts at high speed (the snow really flies!) as well as coverage of all aspects of plowing the rails in Canada. No, I don't work for Greg Scholl, but I do think plowing is a rather obscure but exciting railroading subject.
Anybody out there seen any plowing?

There are several good videos on this subject:: Pentrex DVD combos, Battle for Donner Pass and also Flangers, Spreaders and Steam Rotary Snowplows which are based upon SP material. You bet plowing is obscure, railroads avoid bringing out the heavy guns unless presented with no other choice, Flangers,Spreaders and off track equiptment are SOP these days.

I was informed, by a person connected with UP operations that they no longer have personal qualified to run a rotary over Donner Pass, they still fire them up in stationary mode for their annual boiler test, but otherwise its just a memory.

I'm not sure i'd want to get up close and personal with snow removal, they throw a vast quanity snow, ice, ballast a who knows what else, I actually know someone that was buried under such material when standing too close to a operating rotary on the wrong side of the track with no escape route, he survived the ordeal just fine, but never did find his camera.
SP the way it was in S scale

I have the video, The Battle for DONNER PASS, and have enjoyed watching it several times. A person can learn a lot from watching it. My hat is off to those brave men who face such bad elements to keep the railroad running.
