Thanks for the info. After I posted I remembered that PG governors are solenoid actuated. So an E8 literally 'flies by wire".

They weren't. They actually operated as two locomotives which just happened to be mounted on one frame. You could shut down one engine and the locomotive could continue on the other, powering just one truck.

On passenger diesels with dual engines, how were they synchronized to share an equal load?
