If you haven't done so, go to the C&O Historical Society website. They have an ever-growing digitized index of their photo collection. It's well-indexed and easily navigated. I know it's a railroad site, but the diversity of their collection is amazing...

Also, have you contacted the Mariner's Museum at News? They have lots of pictures, too - maybe just what you are hunting for; especially if you're talking about stationary engines.

Hello Everyone,
Do you know where I can get pics of steam operations (C&O)in the Newport News shipyard 1920-35 era[?]. My grandfather maintained the power generating steam engines there. He said they kept one running continuously for 7 yrs to see if it would hold up. It did.[:D]
