Three-car train from Beacon Street - Reserviour or Commonwealth Avenue - Lake St./Boston College entering Liechemere Station:

Lonely CE-car in Watertown yard, possibly waiting repair there:

Three-car CE trains were regular at this location on Commonealth Avenue, but they were always Commonwealth Avenue trains, with Lake Street or Boston College destingation signs, or possibly Oak Sq. Allston for short-turn trains.  Three-car CE trains were never assigned to Park Street - Watertown service, and Newton Center, with its simple crossover, was not a regular short-turn destination.  The only explinaition for my photo is that there was a tie-up on the inbound Watertown - Park Street service, and the Starter at Lechemere diverted a Commonwealth Avenue  (today Green Line "B") train to Watertown (would be "A" if stilil running) to handle the crowds that had formed at the Subway stations Park Street through Kenmore Square:
