The Freedom TrainSong!  I've never heard it before.  Sounds like it was a "commercial," for lack of a better term, for the 1947-1949 Freedom Train.

Here's a website with the story...

Fascinating. Great information. Who knew!

I was instructed not to post this until a very specific Forum 'event' occurred. Now that it has happened the posting went up.

That would make a good quiz question... what was the event?  Those with a knowledge of Forum history and a keen eye should be able to put 2 and 2 together BUT only, and I stress only, by PM or my email, and not here.

Its label apparently says it was made for the Berliner Gramophone Company (not the United States Gramophone Company in Washington, or the National Gramophone Company in New York, so this is complicated.  Its number suggests it was the sixth 'matrix' made for ... whatever company it was.

There were supposed to be upward of 100 masters by the time of the fire in 1897.  Most of them were destroyed without a trace...

Here's something that begins in much the same way, just about a half-century later, that (unaccountably!) seems not to have been mentioned here before:

Mike strikes again!

Not the best of compositions, it's no "Bahn Frei" by Strauss, but fascinating to listen to.

Gotta be from Mike ... right!
