Wow 'Dude, I didn't know you could sing!

I have a voice made for print....

But I did grow up watching Thomas the Tank Engine, and playing with the wooden toys.  We got a mix of the British and American narrators in Canada, Ringo and George Carlin were the two best ones.

Carlin gave George the steamroller a absolutely terrific voice:

"POP goes the diesel". Groucho Marx used that line in their movie "Go West." Ironically enough, they were feeding popcorn into the firebox of a steam locomotive!

In and out he creeps about

Like a big black weasel

When he pulls the wrong cars out

POP goes the diesel!

You have to imagine Alvin & the Chipmunks singing it to get the full effect....

Or Ringo Starr.  My kids grew up on the "Thomas the Tank Engine" series before it was animated.

I save my animosity for Rudolf Diesel.

...he said in an oily voice.  Wink

Wow!  Someone else knows that line besides me!  Cool!

"Hell-loooooo, my name is Deeee-zellll!" he said in an oily voice.

At least that's the way do it...

"Diesel's Devious Deed," a classic of Western Literature!

Henry Ford and the Wright Brothers.

Well, I don't hate them for what they did.  They did what they did and that's that, and if they didn't someone else would have.  And since I drive and love airplanes, well, what can I say?

One could have hoped that Henry Ford and the Wright Brothers could have become composers and artists, instead of what they became. Maybe Harry Turtledove will write an Alternate History novel in which something like that happens!

Thanks David!

I still shake my head, that extensive network of reliable non-polluting transportation, and it's gone!  All gone!

What happened?  What the heck happened?

OK, I know what happened.  But it didn't have to happen.  That's the real shame.

Like a lot of wars, I suppose.

Nanicoke and Hanover still surviving, last summer, from a once very extensive system, then mostly trolleybus.
