Did locomotive builders (ALCO, Baldwin, Lima) photograph every single locomotive that rolled out of their plants? Perhaps as a matter of their own record, or for their customers? Is it still done today?
From what I have seen - and it is not all inclusive.
I appears that the builders would photograph one of each 'class' of locomotive they built as a representative of that class.
I have no idea what today's manufacturers are photographing.
