Good, good stuff.  Thanks Mike!

Anyone besides me noticing that World War Two is approaching the status of legend that the American Civil War has?

Well, it's been about as long from the end of WWII to now as from the end of the Civil War to WWII.  And for good or ill, much of the Civil War was 'legendary' long before 1941...

Mod-man, it's no wonder the Civil War started moving into legendary status as soon as the guns fell silent.

The size, the scope, the cast of characters, including your distinguished ancestor Colonel Ellsworth (who's time on stage was far too short), a story line that even the most imaginative writer of fiction couldn't come up with made it all happen.

Add to that the work of historians, novelists, biographers, eventually Hollywood, and yes, the Civil War veterans themselves who made damn sure they and their fallen comrades wouldn't be forgotten.

A sword-stroke right through the middle of American history.
