Approximately 15 years ago I read an article in Classic Trains magazine titled "Pokey's Hammer" (I may not have the spelling of Pokey correct). It may have been on the cover of the magazine. I'd like to find a copy of that article. Does anyone here have a copy of that article or know where I might find it.
Any help will be appreciated............Thanks
Don't know what issue it was in, but the article related to an apprentish taking a speciality hammer from blue print to the real deal. The function of the hammer allowed the mechanic to tap (sound) for broken bolts, stays, and anywhere else a good set of ears could detect a failure. The hammer head served as a guide for measuring wheel dept and other clearances. It was meant to prove the apprentish demonstrated machining and would carry him through this carreer. There were other uses, but need to read the artical.
