Not one of Herron's

Funny that just a couple of days ago (Monday, October 29th at 11:16) he provided a link to this very film in a post on RyPN, where he said:

Just posted on YT this 14 min film of early diesels by GM and was probably used to sell railroads on buying diesel switchers. I guessed at 1938 as the year for this but it may have been a year or two earlier. Feel free to pass it on. The second part of the film probably sold a bunch of SW units.

I am not offering this one as a DVD. Just enjoy it on YT.

Oops.

Best part was the ending and the parting words "full steam ahead".

I didn't note that until you point it out! I’m impressed Mr. narrator. CoffeeLaugh

Well actually the parting words are "Full Speed Ahead" but I edited to fix that, in my own mind at least.

lol, I thought you were joking. A beautiful misunderstanding.

Thank you very much for posting this, Balt. First time watching B&O #50 in action, some very rare footages of The McKeen Railmotor and other inspiring early diesel streamliners which arguably changed America's railroad industry in this video, as well as the youtube channel.

If these early diesel streamliners of early-1930s never existed, Class I RRs like NYCentral and PRR probably wouldn't even be bothered to streamlining their legendary steam engines and trains like NYCentral's Mercury, 20th Century and Fleet of Modernism of PRR. Constructive competition between diesel, steam and other forms of power pushed the country moving forward, but the ugly World War II changed everything.

Those 2 locos came awfully close, and someone jumped out as well! Wonder if he bailed owing to the perceived near collision?

The loco crossing the diamond as the other aproaches at 90deg was a bit reckless. Wonder if they had to practice that. Something could have gone wrong quite easily!

Best part was the ending and the parting words "full steam ahead".

I noticed that too - what were they thinking.
