SP Reverse Commute Picture of the day 3/23/2018

SP train 151 was the Peninsula section of the Daylight, with a coach cut out of the Daylight at San Jose tagging along for Peninsula residents to get off at their intermediate stops.  There was no "eastbound" (southbound) equivalent, though trains 110 or 162 would make a connection.  Depending on the year a coach or two also went to train 249 for Oakland.  250 was the "eastbound" Oakland Section.  Most if not all of SP's SD7s, including one of the EMD demonstrators, had steam generators and were used on secondary "commute" runs as well as other secondary passenger trains.  About half of SP's SD9's also had steam generators, including two that ran occasionally in the Commute pool between the time they were rebuilt in 1973-74 and 1985, when CalTrain replaced the SP equipment.

In summer 1958 Peninsula locals 110-151 and Oakland trains 250-255 all carried thru coaches from 98/99. 151 left San Jose at 4:15 PST since California was on Daylight Time.

SP seems to have been inconsistent in listing the cars in the public timetables and the OG.  A 1954 public schedule shows only the "westbound" car. A 1948 OG doesn't list the Peninsula and Oakland cars at all.  They still show up in a 1960 OG.  SP Allowed a 12-minute stop in either direction to cut the cars in or out of the Daylight.
