Trinity River Bottom Boomer is over in Germany. You might ask him. I'd like to ask him if he knows anything about those Swiss steam locomotives that were given electric fireboxes and run off catanery during WW II. I realize Switzerland is not Germany, but you never know......

Several years back a frequent poster on the "Trains" Forum called "Juniatha" posted some vintage photographs of those modified Swiss steam locomotives, if I remember correctly they were switchers, and they sure looked strange with pantographs mounted on them.  They were a wartime expedient when the Swiss had trouble getting enough coal to run them, most of the coal coming from Germany.

I just did some searching and looky what I found, Swiss electric-steamers...

How 'bout that?

"Juniatha" was a pretty good source of information on steam, especially European.  I wish she'd come back.

I can't help you with this one myself, but if I were you I'd ask it on the "Classic Toy Trains" or the "Model Railroader" Forums, you may get lucky!

Looking for info on KBN Electric Trolley
Posted by PriceCan on Friday, December 1, 2017 3:20 PM

Hi Folks. I am new to the site and just recently acquired this item. I don't know anything about it and am having trouble finding any specific detail on when it was made. Have found some sites that talk a bit about the German company KBN. Any help would be most appreciated. I have the top of the original box only with a train graphic, and written in German, English and French is Electric Railway. There is just the 1 trolley car, track and a Little Jeff Transformer box. The paint on the trolley car is worn and the headlight bulb is missing. But, yeah, it does actually work and will go around the track. The Little Jeff transformer has cloth covered wire and a porcelain piece where the cord goes into the transformer. I could find pics of various KBN trains, but no trolleys. Hoping someone out there is familiar with this one. Pics can be provided. Thanks
