In the 1950s the thru 6-6-4 sleeper from LA to Denver ran to La Junta on the Chief. I'll check, but suspect that was still true in 1962. The Chief left Pasadena around 12:30-- Super Chief left in the evening, after dark.
(Turns out 1962 was the last summer for the LA-to-Denver sleeper on the Chief, and the Chief was supposed to take it to La Junta.)
If there was a Denver set-out car, it would probably have been set out at La Junta for an un-named La Junta-Denver connecting train.
In 1962, I took the Santa Fe Super Chief train from Pasadena, California to Denver, Colorado. I was only 10 years old. It was an amazing trip. My question is this: The train's final destination was I am guessing Chicago. i remember arriving at Needles, CA and I was in the last car. Our car was disconnected from the main train and that train continued on. Our car sat on the track for a bit waiting to be connected to the train that would take us to Denver. Would anyone know if for sure it was Needles, where we waited on the track? And my last question is what train would have taken us to Denver? Was it also a Santa Fe Super Chief?
