Lionel KW Transformer repair
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 12:13 PM
I have been trying to replace the chord on my KW transformer and can't seem to get the cover off.

When the four screws on the top are taken out the cover feels loose, but the control handles won't come off. Is there a special tool needed to pull the handles off? Is there another way in?

If you haven't done so already, you might post over on the Classic Toy Trains
Forum. There are several guys that I'm sure would be more than willing to
help you out on that one.

I am having the same problem. I can't figure out how to get the handles off. Greenberg's Repair and Operating Manual for Lionel Trains 1945-1969 does not go into this procedure. HELP...!!!!

Just pull straight up on them until they come off. It takes a fair amount of force, but it can be done. Some will suggest using two large flathead screwdrivers to aid in removing them. I have never found this necessary, but it might be worth a try for you.
