[/quote]First, I will list the stops in Ohio: Youngstown, Warren, Kent, Akron, Ashland, Mansfield, Galion, Marion, Lima, and Ohio City.

Overall, it used the former Lackawanna from Hoboken to Binghamton, and then the former Erie the rest of the way to Chicago. If you need the names of the other places, I can provide them (I am using the E-L listing in my copy of the November 1966 Guide for the information).

Yes, in latter days E-L appropriated the name for its NJ-Chicago flagship, formerly the Erie Limited, then the Erie-Lackawanna Limited.

Cussed up and down the EL blocking the Main Street crossing in Kent on my way to classes, frequently had to alter my route.  KSU Class of 1970.

I was at KSU for only two quarters in 1962, but rich ones they were for train-watching. Three pairs of passenger trains yet on both the E-L and B&O.

After supper, I often walked from my dorm (Stopher) down to the E-L to meet the eastbound Lake Cities. Fine train -- really the E-L  flagship between NJ and Chicago, despite Nos. 1 & 2 carrying the Limited handle (later, Phoebe Snow). Diner, sleeping cars, the works. Rode it once, a year or so later, between Galion, O., and Chicago.

Did you ever get over Galion way to see the E-L's gorgeous gingerbreaded little depot there?

I do remember all those blocked crossings downtown. Freights waiting to get into the yard, perhaps, which was to the east?

Lived off campus in Stow - worked my way through school on the B&O.  Never been to Galion, all my passenger train riding was done on the B&O.

Around 1964-66, I left a lot of brain cells in a bar (courtesy of Stroh's) next to the EL tracks in Kent, across the street from EL's station.  SD45 demonstrators, and later SD45's in EL gray & maroon, shook the place as they went by. I was attending Akron U at the time, but Kent was near enough that we spent quite a bit of time there. The bar is long gone, building and all. The station is now a restaurant.
