PRR and P&LE shared a third each of the Monongahela's ownership with B&O.
In 1940 the "capital stock" of the Cherry Tree and Dixonville was owned half and half by PRR and NYC-- ditto LE and P. The Central Indiana was owned half and half by the Penna Co and the Big Four. PC&Y was half and half Panhandle and P&LE.
In Ohio the Lake Erie and Pittsburgh Line was jointly owned by the PRR/NYC, a 1908 agreement subsequently leased the line to the NYC. Additionally if either railroad request expanding the line both were obligated to comply. The LE&P was chartered to operate between Lorain Ohio east to Pittsburgh PA but only built a section from the south side of Cleveland to Brady Lake where the NYC then had track rights on the PRR (then PRR/B&O line at Ravenna) into Youngstown. The creation of this line enabled the NYC to break ties with Erie getting to Youngstown.
Also in Ohio the PRR and NYC had several area's where track rights were granted, the alleged hate between these two lines seems at times to be an exageration due to the Penn Central, the poster child for the wrongs of America's railroads back then.
Pennsy did use NYC's Buffalo Central Terminal.
Was the CT&D "jointly owned"?
Hi, Can anybody tell me if the PRR and NYC had any jointly owned trackage anywhere? If so, where was it? I'm not talking about trackage or haulage rights. I mean one or two tracks owned by both and a train from either railroad could run on either track. Thank you for any info anyone can provide me.
