Despite its history as a one-time slave state, Missouri did not enforce Jim Crow laws on railroads or transit systems.
Interestingly enough, this car apparently survives as part of the CBRX (Charles Barthold) fleet.
IIRC Missouri had segregation laws also during that time? I think the Burlington served several states that had segregation laws requiring separate accomodations on trains.
Texas had a long sad history of enforcing segregation, including a proposal to require Texas Electric to run separate cars that was successfully resisted.
Or the Sam Houston Zephyr between Dallas & Houston?
(Oops! Just moments behind Wanswheel!)
Was this car perhaps used on the Texas Zephyr, the joint service with the GM&O between St. Louis and Kansas City, or the Zephyr Rocket?

ALL:
I have a CBQ Passenger Car Diagram book. Page 49 has a floor plan ot CBQ 4712 "Silver Crown". This is he only pre-war CBQ Chair Car with a "Jim Crow" section in it. The diagram shows a 14 seat area with two rest rooms on that end of the car. One is label "Negro Womans Room" and the other is "Negro Mens Room". This car was in general service on the CBQ.
Can anyone shed some light on this car? It seems strange that only one car had those designations, especially when they did not operate in the deep south.
