I have a July 1942 ORER that lists cars owned by Ford used in interchange service: 21 tank cars (nos. 1-21), 67 fifty ton, forty foot gons (4501-4567), and 694 fifty-five ton, 1880 cu.ft. hoppers (1600-2300). I recently saw vintage film footage (1920s 0r 30s) of a DT&I freight that consisted entirely of FRDX hoppers.

Champ used to make decals for the hoppers (that could also be used for lettering the gons), but they are long out of production and difficult to find.

Thank you, I didn't think of that. I'll try it out and report back. -Alex

You might try searching pictures of DT&I as they probably brought coal to the coke ovens and would travel DT&I which was owned by Ford.

Ford (FRDX) Hoppers
Posted by ALEX WARSHAL on Saturday, May 23, 2015 10:40 AM

Hello everyone, as you can see I am new here. I am wondering if anyone has any info on the above mentioned cars. I know they were similar to the stardard USRA twin hopper, and used at the Ford Rouge Complex from 1910s-1950s. Specifically, I am looking for roster numbers, specs, and things of that nature. Thanks in advance.
