I suspect what was officially named "Appleton Junction" was locally known as "Apple Junction". Railroaders and local folks often had their own nicknames or shortened versions of names for places in and around the railroad.
Appleton Street Railway became Wisconsin Traction Light Heat and Power and was affilated with TMERL&T. There was some transfer of equipment back and forth, but no direct track connection.
Hi and thanx for the effort. The card I have says "apple junction" Under that is either #76 or 676 or 176. The first symbol is not clear. wish I knew how to include a picture or photo. There are definitely two street or interurban cars behind. It is not cancelled. there is an AZO stamp box with arrows up and down dating the paper to from 1918 to 1930. Maybe 30 or so people standing around the 'station' and across the track. Great card no matter what. Is appleton junction the same as apple junction? Hard for a Missouri boy to know his Wisconsin stuff.
Appleton Junction was on the west side of Appleton, where the old Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western crossed the C&NW. The station there was one of three that the C&NW had in Appleton, and was used until the start of Amtrak.
I believe the TMER&L terminated at Sheboygan. The C&NW ran up the lakeshore from Milwaukee, through Sheboygan and Manitowoc to Green Bay, but I don't know if it ever "connected" to the TMER&L . . . I doubt it.
As an aside, the C&NW had a second route to Green Bay, the one through Appleton. Both routes had passenger service until the start of Amtrak.
I have a real photo postcard with and AZO back arrows up and down. On the front lower right is "Apple Junction" On the back in pencil is written Sheboygan WI. Looks like a couple of interurban or street cars on the far side of the station going away. Is this the 'end of the interurban line" where the C and NW railroad connects with the TMER & L Electric? thanx for any help dr. h
