Hi, During the days when the Reading and B&O accessed the CNJ to reach Jersey City, did the Reading stop at any CNJ stations along the way? Looking at a B&O timetable from 1932, the B&O stopped at Elizabeth and Plainfield. Did the Reading stop at any CNJ stations? I a particularly interested in Bound Brook, NJ. Thank you for any help on this.
yes i am certain that Reading stopped at Elizabeth, and I assume they stopped at others as well, probably some did stop at Bound Brook, but possibly not the Wall Street and Crusader during the period when the Reading gave hourly service to and from CNJ Jersey City. Near the end of service, when only a two or three-car Budd train ran each way between PRR Newark and Reading Terminal Philly, I think we did stop at Bound Brook and the train carried local CNJ passengers as well as passengers from Reading points. One of the RDC's had a lunch counter with stools and served decent light food, cofee, tea, and soft drinks. Possibly alcholic drinks as well.
I worked at the Cyanamid Plant which was between Bound Brook and the junction of the Reading and CNJ during the late 70's. There wasn't a station there but the Reading RDCs would stop and drop off in the morning and pick up in the evening people who commuted from Philadelphia and worked at the plant.
Of course we were not allowed to bring cameras into the plant but there was a nice collection of old ex LV and CNJ boxcars in captive service to transfer material between the warehouse and the production buildings.
The Newak atation announcer listed the stations when announcing the boarding of the RDC-car train. He did not say "Philadelphia." He said "Reading Terminal."
