The H class was pretty restricted in its operating area.  Most of their service was on the Chicago-Omaha main.  As bridges were strengthened to handle their weight, they were able to work freight out of Proviso on the New Line to Milwaukee and just short of Minneapolis.  The October 1970 TRAINS has an excellent article about the "Zeppelins Of The Rails".

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
