Just using my recollections it seems those trains were leftovers from the NYC passenger trains, such as the Southwestern Ltd or the Knickerbocker that ran between New York and St Louis. When the NYC and later PC went to discontinue a train they went state by state to get rid of a portion of the schedule. They were more successful that way.
I don't remember any RDC equipment being used for such trains on the PC.
There was the famous "Gary-Garrett Flyer" on the B&O that used a Budd Car to fulfill a truncated schedule in the mid '60s.

The above train ran between Indianapolis and Cleveland. Does anyone know if this train operated with RDCs? Was this a remnant of an NYC train?

Thanks
