Thank you for the suggestions. I believe the board moderator moved it to the proper location.

Jack, I believe you've confused the "Classic Trains" site with the "Classic TOY Trains"  site.  You're not the first and won't be the last.  Slide on over there and ask the question, I'm sure there's plenty of help waiting for you!

In the meantime, try a craft shop for some stick-on weights, add some weight to that  front truck assembly.  Possible even a refridgerator magnet cut into strips that will fit might help.

American Flyer 21166 Pilot Wheels won't stay on track?
Posted by Pocono Jack on Saturday, January 4, 2014 12:57 PM

Hi all, I have an American Flyer 21166 (Casey Jones Locomotive) and it's front pilot wheels won't stay on track? I was wondering if anyone on this board has had that experience and knows a solution. I have been told they came with some sort of spring system attached or that the exterior engine cover may not be on right. I have looked at other 21165-66's on eBay and see no evidence of any kind of spring attached to the pilot wheels. The engine top looks mounted correctly but I'm not an expert, far from it. The track is fine and I have an American Flyer 293 and 481 locomotives that run fine on them. Any tips to help out will be greatly appreciated. For now I simply removed the pilot wheels and it seems to run fine without them but sure does not look right.
