My grandfather, Albert Hoefert, worked for the Chicago & North Western Railroad. The only photo I have of him shows him sitting in the engineer's seat of a locomotive which, I believe may be an "E" or an "F" unit based on the shape of the cab windows. Would anyone be able to help me identify this locomotive?

Thanks so much!
I do not suffer from insanity...I enjoy every minute of it!!! Over 60 and still playing with toys!
What a nifty picture. My "guess", after studying the photo for quite awhile, is that this is an F unit. I see the "Mars" do-dad, but right off hand I don't know if C&NW passenger units had MARS lights. Looking at his clothes I'd say this was shot in the 60's? Hopefully a C&NW expert will chime in.
Can anyone tell me what the cylinder is that is along the front of the curved side window? Also, what is that on the side wall above my Grandpa's head? (It kind of looks like a face with 2 eyes up on top.)

Thanks!
Where is the "mars do dad" that you mention?
