When did Phelps Dodge NW2s 1 and 2 get dynamic brakes? They were built in May 1939 by EMC.
I located a picture of the WVN #52 on page 34 of January 1964 "Trains".

on the linked pic of SP 1125.
We sold-off the SD&AE (the Tijuana y Tecate remained owned by Baja California Del Norte) to a short-line operater, Kyle if memory doesn't betray, in, again memory permitting, October 1978.
Kyle called its operation the SD & IV and as I recall the engs. assigned at takeover were leased to it. EMD Geeps with large SDIV on the long hoods later showed, by '82.
That an 1100 in '84 was in San Diego in pristine (for that era) SP paint astounds this LA Div RFE who rode and for a while ran the last SP-owned SD&AE train on the T&T.
We pulled a few empty grain cars from the Cervesa Tecate Brewery which sterilized the T&T of U.S. owned stuff. The last train's engine consist was 1100's but which ones...... I didn't record.
I left the crew at the western border crossing, San Ysidro, and haven't been back. They took the train to interchange to the AT&SF.
One more ride away out there.....Pioneers...
Interesting fact regarding SP 1125, note the lowered headlight, dead give away it was among a small group that included several non DB SW9's factory equipped with barrel safety lights-useful for grade crossing protection while in service on the PE !

West Virginia Northern also had one SW1200, their number 52, which had the DB installation. Stiff grades, tight curves, and loaded coal hoppers gave them good reason to use the DB on that loco. Hope this helps, Art
The difference in D/B installations is due in part to the fact that the SW8 has a V-8 engine, allowing more space within the hood for the D/B while the SW1200 has a V-12, forcing the D/B on top of the hood.
CSSHEGEWISCH LV and SP had SW8's with dynamic brakes. UP TR5 sets also had them (can't locate pix). The DB installations do not appear to be the same on each of the engines.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
I have seen a few photos of EMD switch engines with dynamic brakes.
Can anyone tell which roads had those locomotives? I assume that the track was too light for a GP unit with DB's.
