Based on what I've read over the years, the "San Francisco Chief" was usually pulled by PA's.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Departed Amarillo, Texas upon discharge from the Air Force Feb. 5, 1961 on the westbound Santa Fe San Francisco Chief. Anybody know what engine/s that train would have had? E's, F's Or PA's.
