EMD's E-units
Posted by NP Eddie on Sunday, April 29, 2012 2:43 PM

The newest edition of "Classic Trains" has a great and well researched article on EMD's E-units. My compliments to all who contributed to the article!

How many E-units had dynamic brakes from the factory? I read one article that some Union Pacific and some MILW units for the "Cities" pool were so equipped.

Also, I read another article that the last three E9A's that the MILW purchased were ordered and delivered with HEP for commuter service and not steam generators. Did any other railroads order HEP from EMD?

Again--a great article.

EMD didn't offer them until the E8. Dunno if anyone got them aside from UP/MILW and SP -- maybe the SFe E8ms?

No one else bought new E's for commuter trains, so presumably not.

MILW 36AC-38AC were ordered for suburban service only and lasted in service alongside the F40C's until replaced by the RTA with F40PH's.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
