Not so great locomotive chase

In the Fall issue there's a story about a failed attempt to catch a runaway locomotive on a Southern Rwy brach.

Here's a pixture of the ill fated duo just a week or so before the event

Thanks for sharing this photo! I enjoyed that story and it is interesting to see this picture. It's something to think that here the geep is running fine and that not long after it would be completely destroyed. I wonder what the photographer would have thought if he would have known.

The photographer was me. I've been trying to figure out exactly what day I took the picture. I was only down in KY for a week, I think. I arrived the night before a major snowstorm and took this picture 2 or 3 days later.

I found the pictures interesting, considering what fate has in store for these units.

The SRR 1014, is the same unit, used by Thrall Car Company, Cartersville, GA, USA. Someone painted over the Roadname, however the number was retained. Trinity Ind. now owns the place, and I've not seen the unit, however don't think Thrall Car didn't display this Historic Electro-Motive Division SW1 every time they held an open house! Thank You my Oltmmand, for providing a pic of an engine with a paint job God wished it to have, along with the Geep, which gave it about a 1500 hp boost, for maybe 2100 hp. what a treasure! ACJ.
