Oops, I stand corrected.  That is 40th Avenue, not 40th Street.

My wife's grandparents lived in Gary Indiana in a house that backed up to those tracks. She recently asked me which railroad ran there, so I decided to post the question.  My wife, having grown up in Gary as well, is a diehard Hoosier and will be aghast to learn that I mistakenly referred to 40th Avenue as 40th Street.

Back to the topic at hand, thanks for that info on the Nickel Plate main.

At 40th AVENUE?   I believe that's the old Nickel Plate main.

The Norfolk Southern crosses Broadway in Gary Indiana at 40th Street.

Does anyone know which railroad used that track before being acquired by the Norfolk Southern?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
