     the topic of observation cars got me to thinking, Years ago the Chicago Great Western bought the round end Observation car the George M Pullman and want ted convert it to a Track `gemonitry car. I was wondering what happened to it? I know it survied till the take over by the Chicago Nrthwestern but I lost ttrack of it. Any information would be helpful Thank You Larry

Have never seen it 'live' or ridden on it....everything I have read said it rode like a bucking bronco.  Mostly aluminum construction and too light for the springs in the trucks....many roads tried it but it never stayed in one service for long.

According to Welsh's Travel by Pullman, the George M. Pullman was scrapped in 1964.

A second Geroge M. Pullman was (hopefully still is) an Amtrak Superliner 1 sleeper, the last passenger car built by the Pullman Standard Car and Manufacturing Company before it exited the passenger car market.   I think they still continued in the frieght car business for a while longer.  Rode in the car once from Omaha to Denver on the Amtrak San Francisco Zephyr.   (It headed west from Denver via Chayanne and the UP.)

The George M. Pullman ended up at Erman-Howell, Turner, KS.    Famous, or infamous,  for scrapping all sorts of historic equipment . 

I saw it and through the courtesy of the E-H onsite manager, walked through the remnants of it in the late 60's.     Joe Welsh is incorrect in the date.

Anyone know where the GMP the second, the Superliner I sleeper, is being used?   I assume it went through the overhaul program.
