Did Kalmbach buy Vintage Rails?
Posted by AltonFan on Thursday, April 28, 2011 9:30 AM

I am wondering if Kalmbach purchased Vintage Rails when Pentrex closed the magazine down?

The reason I ask is because I now see that Kalmbach is selling a DVD of Classic Trains, and I am wondering if Kalmbach is in a position to issue Vintage Rails in a similar format.

I had every issue of Vintage Rails published until most of them were destroyed in a basement flood.

In a letter send by Vintage Rails in December of 1999 to subscribers they explained that while the magazine would cease they made an agreement with Classic Trains to honor the subscriber base of their magazine.  Nowhere did they mention that the magazine was purchased.

Kalmbach/Classic Trains indeed did not buy Vintage Rails. After VR was shut down, Kalmbach and Pentrex agreed that Kalmbach would fulfill any outstanding VR subscriptions with issues of CT.

So, does this mean the Pentrex retains the copyrights to the issues of Vintage Rails that it published before the sale?  If so might they be pursuaded to issue a DVD covering the collection of issues they brought out?
