Can anyone date this photo and give me some information on the passenger train? I think my cousin took it 1950(?)
I think this is a Boston - Rutland train coming into Bellows Falls from New Hampshire, with a Rutland locomotive, although technically it is a Boston and Maine train until the crew change at Bellows Falls. The power was pooled and run through.
I think the bridge in the far background crosses the Ct. River north of Bellows Falls and the building to the right is a round house putting thi pic in N. Walpole, NJ. This is a Rutland train coming from BF into N. Walpole, NH yard and could be heading to Keane, NH and Boston, MA. with an engine change just a few chugs further on. The yard you see in front of you is the first site of Nelson Blount's Steamtown
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
If that's the bridge I think it is, it's rather unique. There is a switch on that bridge with the points on the west side (on terra-firma), a gantlet type 4 rail track across the bridge, and the frog on the east side on firm ground. I have a picture of it somewhere but don't have the facilities to post it.
The switched track curved sharply on the east side so I suspose they were squeezed for space when laying out the track work.
But that was back in the seventies.

I have a Boston & Maine timetable from September, 1948. It shows B&M train 5503, the "Green Mountain" (Green Mountain Flyer?) arriving at Bellows Falls a little after noon, and continuing on to Rutland, Burlington and Montreal over the Rutland and the Canadian National. The shadows in the photo point to a time around mid-day. Since the only other train going this direction was a night train (the "Mount Royal"), the train in the photo has to be the Green Mountain Flyer.
henry6 is correct.
You guys did a great job locating my cousin's photo. Maybe you can help on this photo of D&H#607. Any idea of location?
Not certain of the location but let me ask this side question, ever heard of the DHVM Website?
