F3 class 2-10-2's 3653-3667 were built by Baldwin in 1921 as oil burners, converted to coal in 1926 and back to oil 1940-44, never transfered from Pacific Lines ownership, they were not renumbered in the 900 series as occured with several F4 & F5 class engines.
They retained their mid size as delivered semi-vanderbuilt tenders during coal service with the oil bunker and associated equiptment removed. No other F class locomotives were so converted. Given the remote region in which they operated, probably not too many ventured forth to record them on film, but a search of similar UP tenders does give one insight as to how they may have appeared.

I read that some of Southern Pacific´s F-1 to F-5 class 2-10-2 steamers where converted to burn coal instead of oil in 1926-1927 and again reconverted to burn oil again. The first coal burning 2-10-2´s were again reconverted to burn oil in 1929, while the last ones burnt coal tilll 1950. I actually never saw a photo of a SP 2-10-2 type with a coal tender and wonder what it looks like. Was it the same tender like the ones that the AC-9 2-8-8-4´s used? I googled it, but I didn´t find any photos. Can anyone help me with a link where I can see a SP 2-10-2 with coal tender? That would nice, thanks.
