I recently acquired a Clinchfield passenger timetable dated April 1, 1954.  On the back of the timetable is typed, "This is a souvenir or collection (sic) only, passenger service has been discontinued."  My question is, when did the Clinchfield discontinue passenger trains?  Was this timetable ever effective, or is it really only a souvenir/collectible?  Thanks.

The October, 1953, issue of the Guide shows that the Clinchfield was still operating passenger trains between Elkhorn City and Spartanburg. The next issue I have, in 1955, shows no passenger service. I do remember seeing a notice of the discontinuance, but, sad to say, I do ot remember just when it was. It may be that the Clinchfield obtained permission to discontinue the trains after 4/1/54, and so all public timetables that had not yet been picked up by interested persons had to be so marked on the back.
