Possibly the track to hold trains allowing the power to run around the train?   Since LAUP is still a stub-end station, possibly some through trains, say San Francisco to New Orleand, required a spot where the power could "change ends?"

I saw on the track plan of LAUPT that there was a SP continuity track  at the beginning of the throath at Mission Tower switches.

Wat was the use of it?

Yours sincerely
