Those particular type of signs are referred to as the "X" Herald that was introduced about 1961.  They were used for advertising, on REA buildings (freight depots and agents) and some equipment.  They also appeared on the buildings of a local merchants who were contracted as an REA agent.

I have some REA signs, red  & white with a large white X.  These signs are  2ft square.  Has anyone seen these signs?  I will be happy to e-mail you pictures if you would like.

 Thanks to all.
