Hi,
I would like to build a miniature of a manual railroad car that was used in the old west for rails maintenance I think. It had a shaft similar to a playground seesaw and was operated by two men.
Can anyone share its name and eventually construction details ?
Thanks/Brgds
João
The correct name is "handcar" and several have been preserved at several railroad musuems. I believe Steamtown has one in Scranton, PA/
The hand car, or in this case a "pump" car, is a common museum item. We don't know where you are, Joao, so can't give you much more advice than check your local railroad and historical museums. And I do believe there are kits or models avaiable, so check your local hobby shop, index for Model Railroader, etc., too.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
Thanks both for your replies.By the way I am in Portugal.Take careJoão
Portugal...that'll make it difficult to find one in your local museum for sure....
Then you best bet is to use the internet to contact the different USA and Canadian model train suppliers and ask for catalogues.
