A NEIGHBOR OF MINE ASKED ME IF I COULD HELP HIM, SINCE HE KNEW I LIKED OLD STEAM TRAINS. HE HAD A PHOTO OF A MASON LOCO #724, 4-4-0 THE "HAVERHILL" BUILT IN 1885. HE HAS NO IDEA WHERE IT WAS TAKEN, BUT THE MAN IN THE ENGINEERS SEAT IS ALLEGED TO BE HIS GRANDFATHER AND THE FRONTPLATE NUMBER IS 724. THE PROBLEM IS WETHER THE PHOTO IS AT MASON LOCO AND HE WAS EMPLOYED BY THEM OR NOT. I FOUND OUT THE LOCO WAS SOLD TO THE B&M AND THEY ASSIGNED #29 TO THE ENGINE. THE ONLY OTHER INFO IS THAT THE LAST NAME SHOULD BE EITHER "WALTERS' OR "PROGIN" AND WERE FROM TAUNTON MASS AREA. I WAS ABLE TO FIND THE B&M WEB SITE ROSTER AND SAW A FEW WALTERS LISTED, BUT WITH NO REAL IDEA WHO IT IS, IT STILL REMAINS A MYSTERY. IS THERE ANYONE LOCATED NEAR TAUNTON FAMILIAR WITH THE OLD MASON LOCO, OR A LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY THAT COULD BE CONTACTED? IT WOULD REALLY BE APPRECIATED. I'D REALLY LIKE TO SHOW MY NEIGHBOR JUST HOW MUCH THE OLD "STEAMERS" REALLY KNOW ABOUT THEIR RAILROADS AND BUILDERS. I HAVE THE PHOTO WHICH I WILL ATTACH IF I CAN. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL ASSISTANCE.
