Mark, thanks for these pictures, also. I made use of the Fort Street station three times--twice in 1969 and once in 1970. In April of 1969, I came in from Grand Rapids on the night train (we were delayed at a crossing with the MC, apparently because the tower operator went away with everything set against the C&O), and left on the Cincinnatian. In September, as I commented in my response to your posting with the pictures of the Brush Street station, I came in from Chicago on the GTW and left for Washington on the C&O (I had my only difficulty with ticketing with the Southern's main ticket office in Atlanta when planning this trip; I had specified C&O Detroit to Washington, and someone thought that I meant I wanted to take the B&O's bus connection from Detroit to the Capitol Limited, but after I told the agent in Tuscaloosa that I meant what I had asked for I did get the routing I wanted). The third time was in the spring of 1970 when I came in from Chicago on what had been NYC's Twilight Limited and left for St. Louis in the Wabash Cannonball, which made like a cannonball most of the time, but lost time behind a freight which had broken in two so that I had to spend the night in St. Louis rather than taking the overnight sleeper on the IC; we also had to wait for the crews to be rescued when the hours of servcie law caught up with them since they had been called out of Detroit on short rest, having come into Detroit late the night before.

I won't comment on our using.the current station two years ago.
