I'd recommend you re-post this over on the Classic Toy Trains Forum - there's a thread on Pre-war Flyer where you have a much better chance of getting an answer to your question.
I have this locomotive. It has a 4-8-4 configuration. The number 572 is rubber stamped on the cab below an 8-window. Brought to a local train expert, he believes it is an Pre War American Flyer, 1939-41, and one of their premier locomotives. In my research, one source indicated a 572 UP Northern and also a 4-8-4 Northern. When I observed this Northern, it was not identical to this locomotive. Any help in identifying this locomotive.
