classic trains in galveston texas?
Santa Fe ran a through car from the Texas Chief into Galveston into the mid-1960's. Prior to the Depression, there was also a high-speed interurban between Galveston and Houston. It won the first two speed trophies from "Electric Traction" magazine in 1924 and 1925.

RoyPBower Does Galveston presently have any kind of railroad access?
Yes. UP and BNSF both maintain a presence in Galveston, and there is access by rail to the Galveston Railroad Museum, formerly the main station in the city. As recently as 2004, Amtrak ran city and locally sponsored special passenger trains into town using both UP and BNSF.
I know it's a bit off the original subject, but since the Galveston railroad Museum was mentioned, I wanted to note that it suffered considerable flood damage from Hurricane Ike. The museum is currently closed while they work to save/restore what they can.
The main museum website is:

On their site map page you can see several entries for Sept, Oct and Nov with photos and narrative regarding the flood damage and ongoing recovery efforts.

I wish them luck. It was a great museum.
