Portland (Oregon) Union Station, built in the 1890s, still used today by the Talgo Cascades, Coast Starlight, and Empire Builder.
Hi Everyone, I was reading the Winter 2007 issue of Classic Trains and on the back page there is a photo of the Texas and Pacific Depot in Forth Worth. That is a truly amazing structure. It is a Art Deco style 13 story skyscraper built in 1931. I was not so much amazed to read that it had once existed (there were many great stations) but that it not only survives but is still in service with the Trinity Railway Express! It got me wondering are there any other amazing stations still in service off the Amtrak network. I say outwith Amtrak becuase those depots tend to get more publicity accross here in the UK. There is of course Grand Central Terminal in New York, and I have also heard of the Hoboken Terminal in New Jersey (also being restored and appearing in the same issue of Classic Trains). Then there is the Buffalo Central Terminal - www.buffalocentralterminal.org. Are there any others lurking on commuter systems?
