There are some pictures of the Tower on page 5 and 6 of this link after the 1978 Groundhog Day CMSP&P derailment. The first 4 pages are mostly showing the 1987 C&NW derailment.

Have you asked the C&NW and Milwaukee historical societies?  They might be able to help you with your questions about the accident and provide photos.

  I have two questions   Does anyone know the date of the derailment in Tama when the Milwaukee Road freight Derailed on the crossing of the CNW and destroyed the tower there. And does  anyone have a photo of the tower, Its special because it was the only location in Iowa where tw double trac mainlines crossed   thanks Larry
