Freeman Hubbard wrote for the competition?

Yes, there is a short "Interchange" story about Freeman H. Hubbard on page 58 of the same issue stating that he has been the editor of Railroad magazine for 15 years.

Hubbard also wrote "Dining Car Blues" in the September 1951 issue. And had a Trains Turntable opinion piece, "The great days of railroading" in the March 1972 Trains.

I do recall DPM saying that when Trains Magazine was launched in 1940, Hubbard wished them success. Likewise, when Railfan was launched in 1975 , DPM wrote them, expressing the same.
