The SOO Winnipeger was discontinued in 1967. That was the last SOO only passenger train left, although a SOO-MILW train lasted a few years later.

The Soo's Winnipeger was technically a CPR train north of Noyes, with CPR leasing the equipment for each run, turning it each day for tax purposes.  When the Soo Line bought two FP7/F7B sets (500 a/b and 501a/b, both "b"s later changed to "c") for the Winnipeger they were only used as far as Thief River Falls for the first few months since the diesels weren't included in the lease contract.  This even though one of the FP7s and both of the F7Bs were built to demonstrate in Canada.

And Ed:  Any of the equipment usually used on the GN Winnipeger preserved?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the Winnipeg Limited equipment was preserved, but I did hear the one of the sleeper lounge was at the Topeka business car shop.

I will try and get more information, Thursday.
