I also like simply railway! However, I think watching his videos makes it pretty clear that the NEC is just a regular railway anywhere else in the world however we want to define high speed rail.
Honestly, the NEC is more commuter route than HSR and the Acela barely averages faster than driving regardless of how fast Amtrak can push it for a few miles.
Did you watch the video about the old TGVs he posted a few weeks ago? A little depressing to see France retiring trainsets nicer than anything here in the States! I'm sure the mechanicals were all shot given their great age and the TGV is great because of the tracks, not the train, but still...
No North America is not one. However if the new Congress definition of 160 MPH will be HSR then when the Acela-2s are certified for 160 and in regular revenue service well Maybe ?
The three are Europe, Asia and now Africa. Morocco now has one but some of the line still operates under 3000 volts that their trains cannot achieve the 320 Km speed.
