Did see a few trains on Csx while running errands yesterday.Q 172 had plenty of Fed X frieght containers on the end.Friend is coming over to help with a project.Matt goes back to campus today.Going to see if we can get computer and printer talking to each other.Of course the wizards saw my computer is not windows 11 compliant.The helpers at the store say no ones computers are windows 11 compliant.Mother nature is going to cool us down this week.

Our "Fall Classic" chicken barbeque is in the books. We had a lot of competition this weekend, with several other food events going on. As a result, our sales weren't what we would have liked. But we did move all of the chicken.
Spent a significant part of Saturday "on the air" for a ham radio event - the New York "QSO" Party, wherein operators try to contact as many of the 62 NY counties as possible. I got 34, and added my county to the logs of operators in 21 other states, and one Canadian operator. It was a long afternoon and evening, but it was fun. I won't win any prizes, but at least I played.

Ns sent 2 powder river coal trains east today that I saw.The first had bnsf power.The second had a bnsf/kcs combo.It was passed by a westbound intermodal after work.Took care of the yardwork uptown.Going to get cleaned up.Taking Matt to his check up tomorrow.Guessers say rain in on the way.

Well Mother nature sent more rumble than rain this morning for us.Ran errands in town and saw some trains on Csx.The J 715 was early today and watched them drop some cars for the ND&W.Some mow equipment was sitting in the Defiance yard for the ND&W.Matt's appointment went okay.His leg is healing but has a way to go.They put a smaller cast on his leg today.One more day of work.Saturday going to Deshler to help at the museum and park with trick or treat.Also the Ohio Rail Experience is doing another DT&I special Saturday as well.Time for supper.
Been watching the VR La Plata webcam a lot while attempting to start sleep. Very few trains have DP units and are not particularly long. Last night I saw something rare - a mixed freight WB stopped short of the grade crossing and let two short, hot IM trains go around.
The last two nights we've finally had some serious rain for a few hours. Sunday is supposed to be a doozy 'bomb cyclone' front (yes that's a technical term not a TWC invention). Should be good for the Sierra snow pack / next years water supply.

After work Ns had a stack train outside of Archbold waiting.We came home and gathered some goodies for my brother.While in Edgerton we saw the Bryan local come eastbound.We stopped at a new place in Bryan across from the Amtrack station for supper.We got to watch the local put the cars away and then park the power for the night.Have some things loaded for Deshler for tomorrow.Guessers say dry tomorrow but wet Sunday.Going to go get cleaned up.
Hoping for dry here tomorrow so I can stand the tower up and get the base poured. All the prep work is done - took down one antenna and moved the weather sensors to where that antenna was mounted.
If I can get the base poured and set before really bad weather, I can deal with the rest of it.
Ham radio is fun!
We, too, are supposed to get a bunch of rain over the weekend--they'e talking over an inch and a half. The last rains we got greened up our lawn nicely. If that holds, we shouldn't need to buy the ground cover we were planning to. Not enough leaves to rake or sweep yet, but they're starting to fall here (trees are mostly green yet).I had to make a special drug run today (all legal, but dangerous in the wrong hands). On my way home from there I made a detour of a few miles to see if any trains were running on the Racetrack. Caught a couple...or rather I connived so the second one, a good manifest, could catch me. Tomorrow we'll wind up in the same places, since Pat needs a COVID nose-cleaning precisely on that day. Big procedure coming Tuesday for her, then the two of us get our booster shots on Wedneday.

Busy week last week, from Racine to Green Bay, to Rincon, GA, to Hattiesburg, MS, to University Park, IL, and home. Have to be home next Saturday for blood work, so just a short Muskogee and Fort Smith run next week.........
Sounds as if there is a cloud hanging over the planning process of next year's Trainfest, three members resigned this week. Seeing as last year's and this year's shows were canceled, does not bode well for the future............

Went to Deshler.On the way had a railgrinder duo pull out of the Defiance yard to go east.They arrived at Hamler the same time the DT&I special did.They had to wait at west Deshler about 5 hours before they could go east.Csx also had other surprises as well.On the way home saw the DT&I train come south.They had to wait on csx q 369 at Hamler.Plenty of pictures to download.

Spent a couple of hours on that call, mostly waiting for the investigators to clear so he could be moved.

A lot of people were relieved to find he wasn't local, but then discovered that they had, indeed, met him at one point or another. Still waiting to see the why, but I'm not sure it will end up in the paper.
Rain here, today, as well. It's backed off for the moment, but there's plenty more where that came from. Bit breezy today, too. My weather station recorded a 22 MPH gust at some point, and 0.28" of rain so far.
Glad the weather station is working. I relocated the sensors this past weekend as my radio tower is going where they were. That project is waiting for the rain to end so I can fill the hole with concrete.
Headed for the railroad on Wednesday so I can show the powers that be what we have in our "show kit." While some of the materials might be a tad out of date, what we have works. I don't mind new ideas, but if someone tries to re-invent the wheel, it ain't gonna be pretty.
The megastorm passed through NorCal with some impressive rain numbers.
In 72 hrs over 13 inches came down in Blue Canyon below Donner Pass. Hope some of that wound up in reservoirs.
Near here over 7 inches in 48 hours was the average although in my East Bay community we had around three inches. The golf tournament for today was cancelled (no surprise) as many tree branches are down or close to it and fairways are a little too squishy.

That's a lot of rain, no question. As you say, hopefully a lot will end up in reservoirs. And not as flooding.
Using the usual rule of thumb, that would be upwards of 11 feet of snow...
We're still getting rain from the system that rocked Missouri and Illinois last night, although I've only got a little over a quarter inch on my rain gauge.
Not sure our local rainstorm passed for "Mega", but it did leave us with at least 3.2 inches of added moisture, not particularly needed around here. And the wind knocked down a few branches overnight; they were able to go out with the yard waste this morning. Larry, I think it was the same storm system that hit St. Louis and southern Illinois last night, but tornadoes weren't in the equation at this end.My schedule for November suddenly filled up this morning, with seven physical therapy appointments (I still need to schedule one more, but we have to see what Thanksgiving plans bring for our family).I'm still working on a 640-car block of gondolas that the UP got a few months ago. There are many former series I hadn't known about, and they'll remain uncharted as I try to get the details of this series (CHTT 722000s) ready for the report I want to finish by the end of the month.

According to my Tempest weather station, we've gotten 6.52" of rain so far this month, but I suspect that's a tad bit overstated. My La Crosse rain gauge has a little over 1.5" in it from the weekend, while the Tempest claims over 2" for the same period. Regardless, the drought is definitely over around here...

Might make it to two inches for the storm total here before the night is over. A little water has found its way into the basement, but not enough to worry about. Definitely means we've gotten plenty of the wet stuff.
I've thought about getting a weather station for the park at Deshler. Maybe if I get a nice tax refund next year... I have mine connected to the web, so I can find out what the weather is here at the house from anywhere. The one at the fire station is on Weather Underground.
Making a trip to Utica tomorrow to show the powers that be what's in the "show kit" that we use for train shows, etc. Maybe it'll have stopped raining by then.

The windsock certainly confused a lot of people - but it's nice to be able to see just how windy it is there. Although you can also usually hear it on the mic.
When there's a flag there, you can see it, too.
I'm not sure where the bot gets its weather.
A weather station would also provide a way to document rainfall and winds. I'd love to know what I went through while I was there this past summer. Didn't blow my tent down, but it certainly tried...

The creeks and rivers around here are running pretty good.
At least it was decent today. I mixed 21 80 pound bags of concrete mix for the base of my ham radio tower. It's not going to be free standing, but at least I know the base isn't going anywhere. I tied it into the foundation for the garage, too.
I mixed them all in the wheelbarrow - I'll feel this tomorrow.

What are you using for guy anchors? Tower Base needs to support the tower weight plus the downward force from the wind from the guy wire wind resistance plus the downward vector of the guy wire tension. Guy wires have to be anchored to withstand the forces they have which are NOT insignificant. The towers I had installed on the microwave system I was responsible for had large anchors. vingThese towers had to support multiple 10 ft dishes in 100 mph & and an inch of ice and not let the dish loose focus on the receiving dish 20 miles. I'm sure your tower does not need that stiffness but you are in an area where you need to consider them.
Over 4 3/4 inches of rain this week. A lot of tree matter blown onto the yard (not leaf matter).
